The Northwestern University Center for Genetic Medicine supports a diverse group of researchers studying basic genetic mechanisms, the genetics of complex diseases, and gene-environment interactions.  The Center serves as a focal point for education and training in genetics and fosters public understanding of genetics and genomics.  It catalyzes translation of this research to clinical medicine and society.

One of the Center's primary avenues for public outreach is the Silverstein Lecture Series, established as a forum where the public can hear experts address genetics topics of widespread interest in plain English. Funded by the Herman M. and Bea L. Silverstein Foundation, The lectures are free and open to the public, and bring information about important new developments in genetics research and technology to a broad audience.
