a Northwestern University outreach initiative connecting science to the community

Department of Physics and Astronomy
The Department of Physics and Astronomy has many active research programs, offers undergraduate and graduate degrees, and is active in a number of educational and public outreach activities.

The Department of Physics and Astronomy is active in a number of educational and public outreach activities, including public observing hours on most Fridays during the academic year in the historic Dearborn Observatory.  Recently, this department has embarked on an outreach program of public lectures that has brought to a forum diverse and interesting topics with broad appeal to the students and the general public. These lectures are given mainly by NU's faculty members and visiting scholars.

The material in this format represents a unique opportunity to provide students and the general public with special topics of popular and timely interest. The theme of the lectures is multi-disciplinary and represents the intersection of science and a number of disciplines including history, science fiction, art, sports, culture and technology.  We plan to organize a public lecture every year and place it on the library of videos on our department's website.
