Argonne ESCAPE Workshop: GREET Model

Date/Time: Friday, May 18, 2012 - 8:00am - 8:00pm

The GREET (Greenhouse gases, Regulated Emissions, and Energy use in Transportation) model is a life-cycle analysis (LCA) model to examine energy and environmental impacts of advanced vehicle technologies and new transportation fuels. The model includes advanced vehicle technologies such as hybrid electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, battery-powered electric vehicles, and fuel-cell vehicles. Fuel production pathways include those from petroleum, biofuels (first, second, and third generation), hydrogen production pathways, and various electricity generation systems.

At present, there are more than 18,000 registered GREET users worldwide. The model has been used by governmental agencies, industries, and research institutions to analyze energy and environmental effects of new vehicle/fuel technologies.

In this one-day workshop, Argonne GREET team will present overview of the GREET model development and structure of the model and will conduct case simulations with GREET. Through the workshop, attendees will

  • Learn the basics of life-cycle analysis of energy systems
  • Understand logics of the GREET model development
  • Use the GREET model to generate LCA results for vehicle/fuel systems
  • Pursue sustainability evaluation of new energy technologies
