Celebrate and Walk on Sun. June 3!
Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University 19th Annual Cancer Survivors’ Celebration & Walk
The 19th Annual Cancer Survivors’ Celebration & Walk is the Lurie Cancer Center’s tribute to cancer survivors, and the strides we’re making in cancer treatment and research. The walk takes place on National Cancer Survivors Day, Sunday, June 3, 2012.
The non-competitive three mile walk* begins in Grant Park at the corner of Columbus and Balbo Drives and continues along Chicago’s lakefront. This community awareness event is expected to draw close to 4,000 participants—bringing together cancer survivors, family and friends with the physicians, scientists and health professionals who support them.
The celebration begins at 7:30 a.m., and the walk steps off at 8:30 a.m.—rain or shine. The morning filled with festivities for the family includes, a picnic, t-shirt, music, entertainment, an opportunity to sign the Dedication Wall and more.
No pledges are required to be part of this extraordinary and meaningful celebration. Registration is $15 in advance, and includes a Walk t-shirt and all the fun. Registration is $25 on walk day.
Registration and details are available at cancer.northwestern.edu or 312.695.1300.
* The walk route is approximately three miles long, but many people who register choose to just walk part of the distance, or to stay in Grant Park and enjoy the entertainment and celebration.
The Lurie Cancer Center supports the following concept from the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship: "from the moment of diagnosis through the balance of life, an individual diagnosed with cancer is a cancer survivor."
